A TEAM of five Forest teenagers will be flying to Northern Uganda later this year to work on a school project with a Forest of Dean church leader and his wife.
Ken and Sue Matthews, who have been involved for 12 years developing projects in Northern Uganda, last year returned from a spell as house-parents at Fountain Primary School.
A secondary school is now being planned and as well as schooling the charity behind the project, Life Bridging Works, is concerned with health services education and support.
"It has been a very troubled area for some time but we feel we have been making progress and the fact there are now better relations between Uganda and Southern Sudan is helping," said Ken, who runs weekly Forest Christian Fellowship church services in Lydbrook Memorial Hall.
To help sponsor the teenagers for their trip to Africa there is to be a fun day at Joys Green rec on Monday May 4 (10am-2pm) with lots of games and competitions, stalls and table-top sales. Everyone is invited to join in, said Ken, who is also hoping to bring some African visitors to the Forest later this year. Ken can be contacted on Dean 824319.
