MONMOUTH Town Football Club will face Monmouth Cricket Club in the annual David Uttley charity match at the Sports Ground this Sunday (30 August, midday).
The annual 20-overs-a-side cricket match is taking place in memory of Dave, as he was known to his many friends, who had such a positive impact on both local sports clubs.
Dave, who contributed widely to football and cricket in Monmouth, was a kind soul with a heart of gold, often worn on his sleeve.
A Sheffield Wednesday FC supporter, Dave thrived in his volunteering at Monmouth Town Football Club where he spent many hours working through the paperwork and developing the club to where it is today.
Dave, along with a vast quantity of volunteers, successfully pulled off the biggest junior football tournament in Wales, and oversaw plans for the erection of the club’s football stand at the Sports Ground.
He was also a much-loved member of the third team at Monmouth Cricket Club and cherished playing in the same side as his two sons, Callum and Sam.
Dave is remembered fondly for his generosity, his tenacity to see a job through to a conclusion, and for reminding everyone that family and friends always come first.
