ROSS Juniors Women proved their mettle beating Bristol Brunel 2-0 to advance to the next stage of the Adobe Women's FA Cup on Sunday.

Having put out hosts Bristol West 4-2 on penalties after fighting back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in the preliminary round, they went into the First Qualifying Round at the Sports Ground determined to progress.

And Juniors adapted brilliantly to a late change to the starting line up and began with real intensity.

Danni Baker opened the scoring after a superb high press forced an error in the Brunel defence.

And Ross then doubled their lead when a flowing counter attack saw Lauren Creed's shot saved but Millie Malsom there to tap in the rebound for a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The second half saw Ross manage the game brilliantly, with the defence standing strong and the midfield working tirelessly to deny Brunel any space.

Juniors had been due to start their Mid West Counties League campaign away to Nunnery Wood at Worcester University on Sunday, but the game was postponed to make way for the cup tie.

Having finished third last year, their league bow will now be next Sunday (September 13) at home to Redditch Borough, who placed fourth last season.
