ROSS Golf Club's latest honours board event in the mixed pairs category saw 12 pairs contest the Tom Gurney Cup, reports KEITH RAY.

The occasion honours Tom, who was both the Professional and Greenkeeper at the club's Rudhall nine-hole course before it relocated to their current tree-lined 'hidden gem' 18-hole course at Gorsley, which opened initially in 1964.

Everyone was delighted that Tom's son, Terry Gurney, was able to attend last year’s annual trophy presentation and awards evening to present the trophy to Jenny Freel and Peter Smith.

And if Tom is able to return for the forthcoming 2026 awards evening, he will once again find himself congratulating Jenny and Peter after their impressive 42 stableford points score saw them top the final results table to win the trophy for the second successive year.

As players are required to play shots alternately, it means effective scoring is dependant upon shared consistency.

Jenny’s short game play on the final few holes helped them to a strong finish, which meant that Mary Smith and Antony Graham had to settle for the runners-up spot with an impressive 41 points total.

Other pairings to shine included 39 points scorers Jose and Phil Wilson and Nadia Stirling and Alec Duncanson.
