REDBROOK Rovers launched their North Gloucestershire Premier campaign with an 8-1 Wyeside lashing of Lydney Town A, as super-sub debutant Callum Wilding blasted five second half goals in 18 minutes.

A nervy opening 19 minutes saw newly-promoted Rovers adjusting to life back in the top tier, with Town taking the lead when a wicked bounce deceived keeper Theo Bowen.

But Redbrook soon found their rhythm, with Jake Teague cutting in from the left and producing a composed finish to level minutes later.

And Rovers then took control, playing some excellent free-flowing football and creating chance after chance.

A penalty presented the opportunity to take the lead, but the Lydney keeper produced a good save to keep it level.

It mattered little though, as Ieuan Frost quickly produced a smart finish to put the hosts ahead.

The versatile Callum Wheatley then provided another lovely finish for 3-1 at the break, where changes saw the introduction of Wilding.

Lydney came out looking to respond and quickly struck the woodwork, only for Redbrook to turn defence into attack, with the counter providing Wilding with his first opportunity and his first goal for Rovers (4-1).

And what followed was a remarkable goal blitz as the debutant found the net four more times in 10 minutes, showing composure personified in front of goal and finishing with both his right and left foot to crown an incredible debut and give Rovers a flying start to their new league campaign.

Elsewhere, Aradal South East leaders Chepstow Town's unbeaten run came to an end as they lost to a stoppage time goal at Abercarn.

The Jockeys led 2-1 at the break thanks to a fourth-minute Iestyn Davies opener and a 35th-minute Chris Ham penalty.

But the Jockeys were then unhorsed as Abercarn levelled on 64 minues and then hit the winner two minutes into added time for 3-2.

Usk Town were also downed 3-0 at Chepstow's Thornwell R&W and are still looking for their first win at the bottom of Gwent Premier 2.

It was 1-0 entering the last 20 minutes after a 32nd-minute opener from the hosts' Alfie Sessford, but a Green Army own goal then gave the visitors a mountain to climb.

And defeat was confirmed with a Thornwell third seven minutes from time from Rory Garey.

But Llanarth – formerly Glascoed FC – launched their new identity and their Gwent Central 1 campaign in style with a 5-0 midweek win at Race, who saw two men sent off with more than 35 minutes to play.

Dawson Stubbs opened the scoring on 26 minutes for a 1-0 half-time lead before Kyle Baldwin doubled the advantage three minutes into the second period.

The red mist then descended on Race, who had two players given their marching orders in a minute.

And Jack Bannister (81, 90) and Baldwin again (90+3) took advantage late on with three more goals.

In East Gwent One, Monmouth’s Rockfield Rovers suffered a 4-0 opening home loss to Underwood, while Chepstow Town 3rds also lost out 2-1 at home to Caldicot Town 2nds.

But reformed Raglan Juniors celebrated a 3-2 EG2 away win over Caldicot Castle 2nds in their first league game back, Cameron Rennie, Simon Clarkson and Kieran Knight with the first half goals.

And Tintern Abbey hit Portskewett 6-1 in their opener, Josh Phillips (2), Andrew Sincock, Hynek Kubisz, Tom Collins and John Searle on target.
