FOREST Hills Seniors’ captain led his team across Coleford for the second leg of the Miners’ Lamp trophy against Forest of Dean holding a comfortable 6-2 advantage, writes Geoff Norris.
In the opening battle of the captains, Kev and Clive Winward lost one down against home captain Dave Donoghue and Keith Marfell.
Roger Hall and Geoff Norris shook hands on the 16th as they beat Dave Tingle and Paul Adams, 3&2 to level the match.
The next four matches were won by the home team.
Mark Barnard and Neil James lost 5&3, against Jerry Bolster and Chas Challis and Barry Klein and Ian Lovering lost 5&4 to Steve Tucker and Rob Tomlinson.
Dave Howard and Adrian Vines were four up with six to play, against Frank Beech and Mike Ryder, before the home pair won on the last one up up. Phil Gwynne and Paul A Adams lost two down against Trevor Hallett and Martin Weller for 6-1. The visitors needed only two points on the day to retain the trophy but the penultimate match saw the spoils shared between Mark Graham and Mike Steward against Pete Shingfield and Kevin McEntee.
Tony Laws and Paul Sologub beat Dave Elsmore and Peter Hoare 4&3 win for a leg result of Forest of Dean 5.5-2.5 Forest Hills and overall Forest of Dean 7.5-8.5 Forest Hills.
The previously postponed ladies’ championship at Forest Hills was played.
Olwen Simpson won the Scratch Cup to become the ladies’ champion.
Lady captain Carol Verrier won the Scratch Cup Bronze, and Jenny Ellway won the Rabbits Cup.
The Forest Hills North Gloucestershire Foursomes League teams welcomed Ross on Wye.
The A team’s match ended in a 3-3 draw while the B team won 4.5-2.
