WHITECROFT had to come from behind to beat division new boys Lydbrook Reserves in an exciting encounter.

The side has been strengthened by three signings – Aaron Goddard from Broadwell, Luke Hatton from Bream and Kurtis Locke from Viney Hill – but it was Kurtis's brother Jordan who found his way onto the scoresheet.

It was Lydbrook who scored first as the home side made a sluggish start to the match.

Whitecroft manager Kevin Robinson said: "Lydbrook are a good side but we really weren't at the races in the first half but we started strongly in the second half."

Goals from Aaron Goddard and Joel Giddings secured the three points for Whitecroft, who will be looking to challenge this season after finishing fourth last term.

Kevin said: "We've had the core of a good team here but I was really pleased to be able to bring in Aaron, Luke and Kurtis.

"They are a good addition to an already good team and now we have a squad that can challenge."

The club now has 70 players signed up for teams that start at under-16.

Kevin added: "Having the under-16s gives us a good foundation for the future."

In the other games in the premier division, Broadwell Reserves and Coleford United shared the points in a 2-2 draw, Huntley lost at home to Milkwall 2-3, leaders Mitcheldean beat Westbury 4-5 while Woolaston and Bream drew 1-1.

In the J O Roberts Cup, Lydney Town Reserves cruised into the second round with a 7-1 win over Mushet and Coalway United.
