ENGLAND legend Sir Geoff Hurst will be the guest of honour at the celebrations of a special anniversary for Forest football.

In the same year that Sir Geoff scored in the World Cup final, the West

Dean Charities competition was founded.

Sir Geoff will attend the 50th anniversary celebration of the West Dean which is to be held in Coleford in November.

The first winners of the cup were Bream who beat Broadwell 1-0 in front of a crowd of 1,000 at Viney Hill.

Over the years thousands of pounds have been donated to a variety of good causes in the Forest.

The senior section semi-finals took place on Sunday with Newent Town A playing Coleford Town Reserves and Ruardean Hill Rangers Reserves taking on Broadwell Amts Reserves.

The intermediate semi-finals are scheduled for this Sunday (September 11) with Newent Town Reserves playing Weston at Harrow Hill’s ground while Milkwall hosts the game between Lydney Town B and St Briavels.

The junior section semi finals see Lydney Town A take on Mushet and Coalway at Coleford United’s ground and Whitecroft against Westbury United at Broadwell on Sunday, September 18.
