ROB Ward's beautiful photograph of the great crested grebe and young, in the Review, April 20, 2012, has promoted me to send in a poem.
Some will remember my poems in the Review in 2011, but this comes from my poetry collection (2008).
The bird was spotted near an SSI in?Worcestershire, and being so unusual I was inspired to write.
I hope they don't change the Northern United site, Steam Mills, because in addition to the wildlife I find this area interesting.

The Great Crested Grebe
In the middle of this pond she sits.
On basket nest I would love to make.
Blushing brown are her cheeks.
With a crown so tight upon her head,
She poses, a natural queen.

The poem belongs to my first Poetry Collection "Embroidering the Deep." The Forest Bookshop, Coleford, has copies of this book. Or contact Indigo Dreams Publishing, via internet (see Poetry Collections tab).
Much enjoyed your article Rob, thank you.
