HANK you Mike Meredith-Edwards for your letter about the Severn Bridge disaster.

Like Mike I was there with my father, Captain Percy Aldridge, aboard the 'Nigel.'

I remember Capt Tommy Carter launching a small boat at Purton on to the burning, fog-bound river to search for survivors.

He found and rescued an injured Jack Cooper who lived near Cinderford. What Capt Carter did was the act of a very brave man who deserved a medal. His family should be very proud of him. – Ron Aldridge, Mitcheldean.
