A FOREST fundraising charity has celebrated the United Nation’s International Day of Peace by planting a rose.

Royal Forest of Dean Inner Wheel Club, which made a profit of £2,206 for charity at the Forest of Dean half marathon by selling food cakes and T shirts, planted the rose in the gardens at Speech House earlier this month.

Spokesperson, Sue Boulter, said: “Easter eggs and Spring flowers were very much the order of our April meeting at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Coleford, , as we enjoyed a demonstration from florist Jackie Beard of Jessabel Flowers.

“Jackie demonstrated an array of beautiful arrangements which she generously donated as raffle prizes to several lucky members.

“We presented her with a cheque for £50 by President Lynn in aid of the Pied Piper Appeal, which supports sick and disabled children in Gloucestershire.

“Members are also continuing to support the Forest Food Bank by donating monthly gifts of canned goods, cereals and consumables.”

The group held a coffee morning at Fairview Garden Centre yesterday (April 24) and on May 9, they are hosting Severn Bikers (Blood Banks) charity who will give a talk on the vital work they do to deliver urgent blood supplies to hospitals and road side emergencies to save lives.
