LAST Saturday was declared "Ladies Day" in Chepstow with a range of events around the town.

The town centre was closed to traffic to allow a craft and produce market to take over High Street and there was a fashion show and various entertainments.

They included songs from the Chepstow Rock Choir and local singer-songwriter Chloe Rigby and a fashion show with items from Herbert Lewis, Peacocks and Scandia.

Members of Collegiate Class gave a demonstration of 1930s swing dance and are running a course in Chepstow to teach the moves.

The event was organised by Chepstow Town Council and town clerk Sandra Bushell said it had been successful.

She added: "There were a lot of people around the town, particularly in the morning."

The closure of High Street is the first of a number planned for special events this year.

Plans are already being made for the next High Street pedestrianisation on Saturday, May 24 with the theme celebrating the river and the sea.
