AROUND 30 people and their dogs raised just shy of £100 for Wet Nose Animal Aid on Sunday.

Dog owners from across the district took part in the event, organised by the Forest of Dean Canicross Club, at Soudley Village Hall to raise money supporting animal welfare.

Participants donned a 'doggie' black nose while running with their pooches that were attached to them by a harness.

The event is part of Wet Nose Day which is officially celebrated on September 26.

Briar Morris of Forest of Dean Canicross Club said: "Canicross is a great sport for dogs and a brilliant way to keep fit. Dogs are the best personal trainers and go mad as soon as they see their canicross harnesses coming out. They love running with all the other dogs. The Forest of Dean Canicross Club meets every Sunday and everyone with a dog is welcome. We are hoping to start a beginners running group this autumn."

After the run, participants tucked into some cakes to refuel their energy tanks.

Forest of Dean Canicross Club is the oldest and largest canicross club in the country. For further information contact Nicky Hutchison at [email protected]">[email protected] or call 07799646508.
