THE family and friends of a Lydney teen – who sadly took his life 17 months ago – are holding a family fun day in his memory.

Tyler Davis was aged 18 when he died after a five-year battle with depression.

Lydney RFC, who Tyler played for until he was 16, are hosting the event this Sunday (August 23) from noon where there will be music from Sophie Cotterell and The Lash. There will also be quad bikes, boxing and stalls – to name a few.

His mum, Sharon Davis said: “As soon as Tyler was 18 he stopped receiving treatment from Teens in Crisis, who are based in Gloucester. In the end he didn’t see any way out and took his life.

“At his funeral we raised money for Mind, who supports children with mental health issues, in lieu of flowers. The charity does wonderful work as does Winston’s Wish who offer practical support and guidance to bereaved children, their families and professionals.

“So far we have raised £550 from business sponsors. Our main aim of the day is to raise awareness of mental health issues in young adults.

“On September 5, I will be doing a skydive in Salisbury to raise money for the two charities – despite never going in a plane before and having a fear of heights. As the day looms I am actually getting excited for it and know Tyler would have been happy for me.”

Tyler was one-of-five children and is described by his mum as her ‘rock’.

She said: “Tyler played for Lydney RFC until he was 16 so I know he will have enjoyed the ‘It’s a Knock Out’ football tournament we have organised on the day.”
