HERE'S your chance to grow a whopper!
The Review is launching a competition to see who can grow the biggest onion in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley – and we will even give you the seeds to have a go.
We have a supply of Kelsae seed supplied by famous seed merchants Mr Fothergill's, of Newmarket, Suffolk – seeds that with just a little care and attention can produce an onion weighing as much as 12lbs by August.
All you have to do is send us a stamped addressed envelope marked 'Onions' and we will send you 10 seeds. Alternatively you can call by the office to pick them up.
Next week gardening expert Roy Haviland, a member of the Gloucestershire Guild of Judges and the man who judged the entries at Newent's famous Onion Festival, will tell you how to get started.
There will be two sections – one for youngsters aged under 16 and the other for adults – and all we ask is that you bring your best onion along to Bream Flower Show on the third Saturday in August for the big weigh-in. There will be £50 cash prizes for the winners.
Polish up those spades ... spring is just around the corner!
