IN reply to Mr Rhodes' letter and the legacy we are leaving.
The number of under-nourished people in the world rose from 842 million in the late 90s to over 1 billion in 2009. Global food prices are expected to rise between 70 per cent and 90 per cent by 2030 and also by 2030 it is expected that demand for fresh water will exceed supply by 40 per cent.
The charities that keep batting on about giving money for food and water to fix the problem are lying to us. How can it be fixed when the world won't actually have the resources needed? The number of women in developing countries who want to avoid pregnancy but are not using modern contraception is 222 million, but charities etc are too gutless to actually address this issue.
We here in the UK are going to grow by 10 million in the next 22 years. That's 10 more Birminghams.
The cost of 10 million people's lifetime carbon emissions is £300 billion. The cost of infrastructure needed without any improvements in standards for anyone else is over one trillion. I hope we are all ready to put our hands in our pockets!
For those extra we will need another 27,000 wind turbines just to stand still in emissions.?We enacted legally binding legislation to cut our emissions by 32 per cent by 2020.?A recent letter I received from Defra told me that we have actually increased our emissions by 19.1 per cent.
New analysis has shown that the reduction in emissions that the UK needs is the equivalent of turning off the power to the whole of the UK for 3 months of the year until 2020.
In the UK we are only 60 per cent food self sufficient so we are going to get hit very hard on food price rises.
Do you want a real laugh? The Rio 20 document called 'Future we want' does not mention carrying capacity, planetary boundaries or tipping points. The words 'encourage' appears 50 times ' we will' only five times, 'support' is used 99 times and 'must' a grand total of three!
I could add more but will save it for another issue as this is rather a lot to digest. People at the top need to answer for ignoring these problems and I would urge everyone to do some research and put pen to paper and remind them that they are supposed to be working for us and our future generations.
