HOW sad and horrid to read yet again (Review 5.2.2011) of the dumping of pets of all description. The present financial position is a poor excuse as this attitude towards animals has always happened.
Animal lovers who care for pets should have the common sense to decide whether they can afford such a luxury and may be prepared to forfeit items in their lifestyle to enjoy the marvellous experience of owning a pet with all the love they give.
Surely there are members of Parliament who are animal lovers and with the help of the RSPCA and other animal welfare charities could pass a law preventing the mass breeding of pets that takes place.
After many years puppy farms are still operating and I believe it has been known for the homeless people with dogs to allow them to breed to sell. The penalties at the moment for cruelty to animals are useless and of no prevention at all. These should be reformed then maybe less cruelty would take place.
Thank goodness we know of many loving homes where pets are valued and taken great care of. Where would the blind, deaf and disabled be without their marvellous dogs?
Rescue services in our area are to be commended for their tireless energy and commitment.
