THE biggest 'Hog' ever saw more than 4,200 bikes take over the Old Severn Bridge, riding three and four abreast across the two mile span before roaring into Chepstow and bringing the town to an awed standstill. And despite "real concerns" that this might be the last, a return next year now looks on the cards.
Perfect weather, sunny and still, greeted the riders as they crossed the bridge into Wales, before some embarked on a tour around Caldicot, the Wye Valley and around into the Forest.
Organiser, Gill Mogg, from the Harley Davidson Bridgewater Chapter that dreamed up the whole event said: "The day was perfect, the best yet. I cannot believe how big this has become, it's become a worldwide event – this year we had riders from Limoges in France, from Edinburgh, from Manchester and Birmingham. Well from most of England really.
"We are always welcome in Chepstow and they can't do enough for us – all along the route there were people cheering and clapping us with banners welcoming us to their villages. It was a real buzz."
There was a question mark hanging over the 10th anniversary 'Hog', with real concerns it could be the last. Last Sunday's event means: "It looks like there could be a return – let's hope so," said Gill.
Although it is still being added up, sponsors, Riders of Bridgewater, reckon this year's event has raised more than £14,000 for charity, topping last year's total.
