LOVE is in the air as the newly refurbished St Briavels Assembly Rooms re-open for a Valentine's Day dance.

The £94,000 refurbishment, funded by Defra, is intended to start restoring the rooms to their glory days.

But there is still a lot of fundraising to do before the project is complete, says spokesman Jane Harvey.

"It has been such a transformation – the main hall, entrance and green room are now unrecognisable!"

Organisers are looking for other couples who found love at the Assembly Rooms to come along to the sixties music night.

Local couple Mike and Pauline Jones met at a dance at the Assembly Rooms nearly 40 years ago and are still happily married.

Jane said: "It was quite a stomping ground in it's day and we want to bring those days back!"

There will be a retro menu including old favourites like prawn cocktail.
