A MUM-OF-TWO has braved the shave for Macmillan in memory of her father who lost his battle with terminal cancer in July.
Diane Watkins, of Coleford, hoped her father Wally would watch her but after just a three-month battle he died in July before she undertook the fund-raiser on September 15.
The 30-year-old said: “I’ve had the shave in the pipeline for a while and chose the date September 15 to do the challenge as it would have been my dad’s 66th birthday.
“Ashley Putland at Changes hair salon in Coleford carried out the shave and we held a raffle. So far I’ve raised a staggering £1,685 – I can’t thank everybody enough for their support especially the local businesses who have kindly donated raffle prizes. These include Al’s Plaice, Cleawell Caves and Reds Physiotherapy.
“We also released balloons after the shave which were supplied by Crazy Occasions in Lydney.
“My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the beginning of May and I feel the care he has received from this charity has been a great comfort. Unfortunately dad passed away on Saturday, July 25. I was very much a daddy’s girl and I know he would have been proud of my latest fundraising effort.”
