ANYONE for tennis?

That's the new shout at Blakeney as members of the village's Recreation Centre discuss the prospect of starting a club.

"If we had a dozen people willing to take a proposal forward it would be quite possible to have a club," said secretary Michael Johnson.

With a new committee, the Recreation Centre now boasts a refurbished club room with table tennis and snooker facilities.

But the village also has an eight acre field.

"It's a marvellous asset – one of the few level areas available for recreational purposes in the Forest," said Mr Johnson.

"At present it is only used by the football club but it could become the focus of a lot more activities such as cricket and tennis," he said.

Mr Johnson, of Prospect house, Church Square, Blakeney, said that new housing in the village had increased the population.

"Unfortunately recreational amenities have diminished over recent years. We would like then to grow again and would welcome some ideas," he said.
