DON'T panic! That's the message from Nick Ranford who insists his Ellwood team – one place from bottom in the County League – can avoid relegation. All it will take, he says, is one win.
Ranford believes confidence to be the key.
"We are not out of it by a long way. There are still 16 matches to go and I sincerely believe just one win will spark a revival. It's a confidence thing, all we need is a victory to put us back on track," he says.
With two wins and seven draws from 18 games, Ellwood – now the Forest's only team in the County League – recognise they are in a dog fight.
"We have got to start winning and to do that we have to take our chances. We missed a couple early in the game and then paid the price. As soon as Chipping Sodbury scored their first goal it looked as though our heads went down, " said Ranford.
The Bristol defenders made a couple of remarkable saves including turning over a fine header from Clayton Hook. At half-time neither side had managed a score but the Sodbury chips were down early in the second-half and Ellwood never looked likely to hit back.
"Some of our first-half play was not very good. I thought we gave them far too much room," said Ranford.
However, he says, confidence will be restored quickly by a single win.
"All the players are working hard and we have some quality players many of whom have plenty of County League experience. Kenny Addis is doing really well at the back and Lee Barnard has had a good season in goal....all we need is one win," says the manager.
