A Vietnam scenario

I AGREE with Bernard Wheeler about the politicians who send our young men to kill other young men in Afghanistan with complete equanimity.

However, I do not believe that more helicopters etc are the answer. It is time that there was a proper debate about what our armed forces are actually being asked to do and whether this is obtainable.

My own fear is that we are being sucked into a Vietnam scenario with increasing numbers of troops being killed or maimed.

I have yet to meet anyone else who knows why our boys are in Afghanistan or what they are trying to achieve.

I feel that it is probably to save the face of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown who slavishly followed the American lead without thinking the whole thing through. I would be interested to hear from any other reader with another explanation. – Name and address supplied.
