TELEVISION'S Welsh weatherman Derek Brockway dropped into Monmouth last week to launch the Welsh

Libraries Festival.

While libraries around the country are facing the axe, the festival, called 'Fancy That' encourages all generations of the family to try something new at the library, with events happening throughout Wales during the next few weeks.

Monmouth's library is housed in the former Rolls Hall, and Derek said: "This is a wonderful building and being honest its one of the best libraries I have ever been too.

"Libraries have been an important part of my life and if I look back I wouldn't be standing here today, or doing the job I do without the aid of the library as it would have been impossible to buy everything as being a weatherman involves a lot of reading of a variety of books.

"Libraries today are not just about books as there are lots of things families can come and do including using the internet and learning new skills. Its something we can all celebrate by taking part in this festival."

During his visit Derek was challenged with making and carving a wooden Love Spoon from willow wood.

Other activities taking place throughout the festival include yoga and pamper sessions, lessons on family history, computer courses and arts and crafts classes.
