REFERRING to the front page of the Review dated September 4 about the essential roadworks on the old Wye bridge at Chepstow.

I think the real cause of the congestion is the lights at the Tesco junction.

Larkfield roundabout works like a conveyor belt and that’s how I like it but the timings at the Tesco lights have never been right and commonsense says there should be a one-way system around the church and Nelson Street car park.

The sooner the better.

It appears that some of the councillors do not drive cars and do not know what they are doing.

How many new roads had to be built because traffic lights made the congestion worse?

Because people like me did not agree with traffic lights on the Coldra roundabout at junction 24 of the M4 and instead turned off the M4 at Magor and drove around the south side of Llanwern steelworks, ultimately public money had to be spent building a new road through the steelworks.

I think the A48 would safer if there were roundabouts at the Bulwark Corner, Moor Street and the Sedbury turning.

What about having the Chepstow Saturday markets in Bank Street rather than High Street?

I am convinced that should there be a blockage on Hardwick Hill while there is a Saturday market in High Street, the police would have to shut down the market and reopen High Street to traffic.
