EMERGENCY works on the A48 that should have finished nearly two weeks ago have gone over schedule.
Gloucestershire County Council couldn’t say what the hold up was but a Review reader has criticised it because no workmen appear to be on the site.
Motorist Tania Hailes said although one lane is still closed between Blakeney and Newnham-on-Severn she hasn’t seen one workman.
She said: “The lights have been there for over a week but where are the workmen? I’ve travelled across the A48 at different times of the day and not seen one workman which is a bit silly considering cones and lights are still up.”
Temporary traffic lights were installed earlier this month to allow workmen to dig a trench along the road. It was due to finish on September 9.
Jenny Goodson, area highways manager, said: “Crews have been on site at various intervals to carry out inspections of the highway, and the work is ongoing.”
Gloucestershire County Council said, during peak hours in the morning and evenings, the lights would be under manual control by highways crews at the scene.
