STAFF at two Coleford salons have ditched gossip magazines and have been encouraging customers to leave positive messages about friends and family.

Oasis Beauty Nails and JD Hair - who share a building in St John Street - came up with the idea as a response to the tragic death of TV presenter Caroline Flack.

The gossip magazines have been replaced with more general interest monthlies.

Laura Green, who runs Oasis Beauty, said: “We are all women here and we were all really shocked and saddened by the death of Caroline Flack.

“I made the decision to get rid of the glossy gossip magazines.

“We’d normally have them in reception and we’d give them to clients as they were having their treatments.

“People can leave little notes to make others feel better and spread a bit more positivity.

The reaction has been really good, even just between us we try and keep each other’s spirits up.

“It’s small things and it’s why Lisa came up with this jar.

“It can be about us or friends and family and every couple of weeks we put it on our social media.”

Jade Davies, of JD Hair said: “Mental health is so important

Hopefully, they come in and they go out feeling better.

“If someone is struggling we can have an impact with something simple like a note.”
