FOREST of Dean district councillor Alan Preest – pilloried after a Tesco incident last year – ended up in the stocks in Lydney last Saturday.
Cllr Preest stoically fielded a faceful of wet sponges as he took the punishment as part of a Forest Fundraisers Funday held at Lydney Rugby Club.
Cllr Preest said: " However much I protest my innocence there will always be those who believe the worst of me.
"I like to think I have a sense of humour and as the Funday was for local good causes I decided to take up the offer of going in the stocks. Now – though I did nothing wrong in the first place – I have taken my punishment on the chin."
