MY letters to the Review on the subject of immigration have been aimed at trying to achieve a rational and measured analysis of the issue.

When I began to read Mr Cooper’s letter (Review, September 11) I thought he was responding in a similar vein, albeit from a different point of view.

But then he goes on to say that: “Churchill was ignored when he warned of the threat from Nazi Germany.”

Is Mr Cooper seriously comparing those coming to Britain in search of sanctuary or a better life with the Nazi storm troopers?

This is precisely the sort of alarmist approach that we need to avoid. Let’s get back to a calm, evidence-based discussion.
