WHY were so few people given a leaflet regarding the proposed development of the Allaston and Driffield Road area? Perhaps the developers only wanted a few people to be aware of their intentions!
For decades children and parents have roamed these fields collecting blackberries, nuts and mushrooms. They also enjoyed the superb views of the Severn Estuary as well as the abundant wildlife in the mature hedgerows and trees – kestrels, sparrow-hawks and owls to name a few.
Perhaps someone with some influence could get these last few fields turned into a conservation area with wildflower meadows. This would serve local people, and most importantly, the children much better than more unwanted houses for the overspill of Gloucester and Bristol.
Our school is perfectly situated with the sense of the countryside still around it. Why spoil it just to the line the pockets of individuals and developers? The previous two shops on Primrose Hill closed owing to the supermarkets – why build another? There are already cycle tracks in the Forest, new ones are not needed and would not serve any purpose.
OAPS have to catch the only bus to get to their pension in Lydney and then have to wait two hours to return. Vehicles leaving the Windsor Drive entrance would go straight down Driffield Lane to reach the ring road. This lane is already like a main road. There is already heavy congestion along Court Road because of the school. An entrance at Oak Meadow, passing the children's play area, would be too much. The original entrance to the farm was via Highfield Lane. I wonder why this was not an option? With all the development out on the ring road there is no need to spoil our last remaining fields. This land was sold as agricultural and should not be allowed to be built on.
