LYDNEY based medical operations company Fusion Medical has confirmed it is ending ambulance operations from its Hurst Farm site.
Company director Mr Jamie Cooke said: "After transferring patients on behalf of the NHS for the last three years, Fusion Medical have made the decision to end the ambulance operations of the company.
"Because of this, there is a chance of redundancies from the ambulance side of the organisation. We are currently consulting with staff and looking at alternatives to making any redundancies and no final decisions have yet been made.
"There is a total of 16 staff employed for ambulance operations and that is the number who are 'at risk'.
"The decision to end the ambulance operations was not taken lightly and is based on the current economic climate as well as the predicted future increases in expenses being faced by all businesses, especially transport companies. With this in mind as well as the continued uncertainty within the public sector on a national level, continuing the ambulance operations is not a viable option for Fusion Medical. The company will continue to provide high quality medical and first aid training to our extensive client base and will develop new and exciting projects to compliment our existing courses."
