A FANTASTIC amount of research has gone into a unique record tracing an entire parish's family tree.

Produced to mark the millennium, the Hewelsfield family tree also incorporates the closely-linked parish of St Briavels and makes a display some 40 feet long by four feet deep.

"It will enable families to see just how they have interlinked through births, marriages and deaths over the years," said its creator, Austyn Williams.

"Initially I suggested restricting the tree to families that had lived in the area for at least 100 years, because to include everyone would have made the task almost impossible," he said.

However, when starting the tree it was not always known how long the family had lived in the area so families with a standing of 80 or fewer years are incorporated.

As well as the major 'time line' tree single sheets are available showing more detail of the individual families.

The parish millennium tree will be on view in the Moravian Church Hall, Brockweir, on Saturday and Sunday September 16 and 17 from 10am-6pm on both days.

Admission is £1, children free, and A4 copies of parts of the tree will be available at 20p each with all proceeds going to the Moravian Church.

Visitors are being asked to park at the side of the road just above the village on the Gloucestershire side because of restricted parking space.
