WE have heard that the Forest of Dean District Council may close down Anchor. This is supposedly a cost saving exercise! We understand that the council part-fund Anchor. We further understand that the council is intending to take on the functions of Anchor.
Can you imagine them taking on an increased workload without an increase in staff?
Anchor not only help the elderly with problems concerning their homes, but also social problems, such as help in applying for social benefits etc.
Anchor's approach to people requiring help is totally holistic, taking on the problems of the person as well as their homes. Many pensioners have had repair jobs done under the control and supervision of Anchor people – a service that will be sadly missed, should Anchor be closed down. – L.
