WILD boar in the Yorkley area are making a nuisance of themselves in daylight hours – but one victim says they should be controlled but not exterminated.
Pat Turner, whose home is in the Kidnalls, has had areas of her garden ruined by boar which got in from abandoned land next door after knocking down a wall.
"It was about 11 in the morning and I was scared to go out while they were there. There seem to be quite a lot here now and some people are not keen on going into the woods, especially with dogs," she said.
"We thought our garden was well protected, but apparently not."
However Mrs Turner said she would not like to see the animals cleared out of the woods entirely so long as numbers were kept under control. She had phoned Forest Enterprise but they had told her they were working on the problem.
Meanwhile llama trekker Alastair Fraser says the boar are attracting more and more poachers to the Forest and he fears an accident with a lot of after-dark shooting.
"I think it is a growing problem. However, I think boar have a place in the Forest – they are very misunderstood animals. But something should be done about poachers. Somebody is going to get hurt."
Alastair has a part-blind tame boar at his Smallbrook farm which he is looking after for the British Wild Boar Society.
