PET-owners were invited to bring their animals to a special day of blessing at Brockweir.

The day also commemorated St Francis of Assisi , the Patron Saint of animals.

The emphasis was on fun, and it was all free thanks to sponsorship by Marlow Vets, Tesco Stores, and the help and enthusiasm of parishioners.

Games and activities for all ages ranged from making animal face masks to quizzes, and even fairground attractions like "hooking the duck". There was also a story corner.

Music included "What's New Pussycat?", "Crocodile Rock" and "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport".

A marquee provided and erected by Brockweir Cricket Club afforded shelter from the sun and on the day became "Tortoise Corner".

All canine capers and animal antics were calmly managed by the Rev.Thom Stapleton, who in his brief opening address "thanked all dogs and pets for bringing their owners!"

At one stage there were 20 dogs on parade and amazingly they were impeccably behaved.

More than 50 animal lovers attended, not just from the village, but from far and wide.

Rev Stapleton said: "The day was hugely successful thanks to the surprising turn-out and the kind help of parishioners."
