GAP year student Anna Dorner, 19 of Lydbrook has been inspired by a year-long work placement to throw herself out of a plane at 10,000ft!
The former Lakers and Monmouth Comprehensive pupil plans to do a tandem skydive to bring in money for LINC, the Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy fund, based at Cheltenham General Hospital, next to her work place in the histology department.
Anna says she sees the good work the charity does, not just for the patient, but for their family and friends.
She said: "What I like about LINC is that they look after the small details as well as the bigger things.
"They raised the money to fund a haematologist, but they will also do things like organising a taxi to Bristol when patients have to go there for specialist treatments.
"It doesn't seem like a lot, but when you are feeling unwell from the treatment and your limbs feel like lead it makes such a difference."
The ambitious student has a place at medical school in September and has been making the most of her job, attending lectures, meeting doctors and getting some work experience.
She says she is not particularly adventurous or sporty and has some reservations about her 10,000ft plunge.
"I'm getting quite scared about it now!" she said. "I signed up late because I had quite a few doubts – but I'm getting a bit of a buzz when I think about it!"
So far Anna has raised £290 but she wants to try to increase her total to support LINC's efforts to extend the Edward Jenner Clinic in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Anna is appealing for people to donate online. Just £10 buys an hour of the leukaemia research fellow's time, £30 buys a taxi to Bristol for treatment and £3,000 buys a new Dinamap patient monitoring machine.
