THERE were around 250 entries for this year's Newnham Show which took place at the Armoury Hall on Saturday.

Organisers were particularly pleased that the 33rd annual show attracted more entries from children.

About 150 visitors came to see the show which raised about £370.

Chairman Mr Ray Puttock said: "The entries have been static but that is good considering the year that we've had.

"Newnham is a very community-minded place and the show is well-supported."

There has been good news for the village with the confirmation that a grant of £50,000 has been awarded by the Forest of Dean Council's Local Action Group for refurbishment.

The money will mean that a new first floor space can be provided and downstairs will be a dedicated community centre.
