WONDERFUL weather, a fantastic event and a profit of over £7,000 made Westbury's annual carnival and show the best ever.

And pencil September 2, 2012 into your diary now...it's the date of the next show and Joe Liddington, chairman of the organising committee, says it will be even bigger and even better!

Sunday's super fun-packed family day was voted a huge success.

"It's hard to judge how many people were there but it was certainly well over a thousand and probably many more. The carnival parade was a match for the best around and the events in the main ring made the show one to remember," said Joe.

"The highlight of the show is the really good main ring. There was always something going on and visitors love it."

Joe said the organisers wanted to thank everyone who had played a part. "Entering a float is a major project and takes a lot of work for what is effectively a 20 minute parade through the village. We are grateful to everyone who played a role," he said.

The prize for the best float was awarded to the village rugby club – it was, said Joe, a tribute to the efforts of Nathan Pritchard.

Joe has been running the show for five years and describes the event as his hobby.

"I like sport but I'm no good at it so instead I do my bit for the carnival and show. It is my one day a year passion," he said.

Sunday's impressive profit goes towards running the village hall. "With costs going up all the time it is important we raise a lot of money. The hall is invaluable to the community and is used by everyone," he said.
