RESUBMITTED plans for the proposed new Asda store on the outskirts of Lydney are to be examined at a hearing by the district council planning committee on September 10.

Part of the new development will include a new factory building for J D Norman, formerly Federal Mogul, plus a light industrial unit and serviced offices for other businesses, in addition to the store and petrol station.

It is claimed that the new store and associated developments could generate up to 250 jobs – with a further number in the construction phase.

co.uk, the new development is described as 'a small neighbourhood store that will bring all the benefits of an Asda to Lydney.' It goes on to promise that the 25,000 square foot store will maintain the Asda policy on national pricing, making their products the same price regardless of store size.

The location for the new development is off the A48 and on the site of the former Federal Mogul office block, and a number of new houses are to be built on the Lakeside area, adjacent to the new store.

Brian Roderick, plant manager at J D Norman, said: "This application is a great opportunity for J D Norman which is a key part of the local community.

"The local economy benefits from the direct wages of around 200 employees as well as a spend of over £1 million with local suppliers. Approval of these plans would ensure that we can continue our excellent work."
