THERE'S no hiding place in the relentlessly tough world of National League One rugby. Stuffed with players on semi-professional contracts, the dreams and ambitions of many famous clubs can be shattered in an instant by a dropped pass or a bungled tackle.
On the wrong end of some notoriously close results this season, Cinderford emerged much more cheerfully from this tough game against Rosslyn Park. Importantly the Dockham Road boys scored four tries and in doing so achieved an important bonus point to claw themselves two points clear of Blaydon and eight points clear of Redruth. They also have the benefit of a game in hand.
Both sides had their moments in this intriguing contest. Rosslyn Park were in control for the opening 30 minutes after which Cinderford snatched the initiative. In the second-half the Londoners and then Cinderford held sway and there was drama as Park produced a thrilling finish.
Trailing by eight points, Cinderford scored twice shortly before half-time. First over was Dave Knight who built on a powerful run from George Evans to race through a gap. A break by Rob Winchle followed and this time winger Nev Codlin was in support to score a try converted by Dan Trigg.
A penalty try awarded for collapsing a maul was converted by Trigg and the bonus point try was scored by Mark Rimmer and converted by Trigg.
Senior coach Dave Pointon says there is no easy game in Division One.
"For next week's game against Sedgley Park we will need to go all out and play with concentration and precision," he said.
Pointon praised Trigg for his success with important goal kicks and picked out George Evans and Nev Codlin as enjoying excellent games.
"We had a shocking start where we were clearly not good enough and missed early penalties. After scoring two excellent tries at the end of the first-half we came into the second-half with a much better start showing in part what we can play like.
"It was great to get a bonus point even though we were not playing particularly well," he said.
