THE LONG-AWAITED scheme to redevelop Lydney Docks is expected to win the approval of Forest of Dean planners next week.
A planning application has been submitted by the Environment Agency for an 80 berth marina, a boat workshop to incorporate a coffee and tea shop, a two storey harbour master's house as well as an observation structure and car parking.
The scheme also includes flood defence works to the River Lyd adjoining Station Road.
The proposals are certain to be welcomed as a way to save the ancient harbour from further decay.
Development Control chairman Sharon Freeman said the plans were great news.
"It is not going to happen quickly but it is an important block in the development of the district. It is very low key and will retain the important features appreciated by so many local people while offering facilities which will enhance the whole area," she said.
