THE relaunch of a steam engine named Rennes will be marked with a rededication ceremony at the Dean Forest Railway (DFR) on Saturday.

The Austerity saddle tank locomotive has been refreshed in its Longmoor military railway livery and the ceremony, as part of the DFR’s wartime gala weekend, will be performed by David Ronald, the former commander-in-chief of Longmoor.

The loco will be joined by Austerity saddle tank Sapper and there will be another example of the class the following weekend when Swiftsure makes an appearance in the Forest.

The gala also includes additional military displays and there will be a special train with a display of military vehicles.

The weekends also celebrate the 95th anniversary of the British Legion with £1 of every ticket sold going to the Lydney branch of the legion.
