IT was Ava Vaughan's day when she went along to a 'Fishermen's Tales' fishing tuition session organised by Yorkley and District Angling Club at Speech House Lake.
Using light tackle designed to catch small roach, Ava hooked an 8lb common carp which took more than an hour to land.
Hers was the biggest fish of the day on Saturday, when all of the 24 youngsters and not so young – including a vicar – caught at least one fish during the one-hour sessions.
"It was brilliant – even the sun shone for most of the time with only one short sharp shower," said the Yorkley club's Terry Mackenzie, who thanked the Forestry Commission, Forest Tackle and angling coach John Beddis for their help and support.
"The youngest was Will Rees, aged 8, and there were a lot of our own younger members along to lend a hand. I think we helped to get a lot of people interested in fishing – we usually get more members after these sessions which we run once a year."
The club's next big fixture is the Challenge Trophy open match at Cannop Lake No 1 on August 2.
