GARDENERS in Aylburton pulled out all the stops to defy the terrible summer and support their local show.
There were 227 exhibits at this year's Aylburton Show held on Saturday, said secretary of the village's flower and vegetable association Gaynor Cooke.
She said: "We were a bit anxious because of the weather we've had but we had 227 exhibits which we were very pleased with.
"The judge was Roy Haviland who is a national judge and he said the standard was very high."
Produce from the show was auctioned off later and the money raised goes towards making the village bloom.
Mrs Cooke said: "We hold it in one of the two pubs on alternate and this year it was at The George.
"The auction raised £600 and the money goes towards tubs and planters for the village."
Among the successful bidders at the auction was Con Dubois of Lydney, who had a surprise when he got the box home.
He said: "When I was taking the produce out of the box I came across a very unusually shaped potato.
"It seems to have a head and legs and I think it looks rather like a mole."
