PUPILS at a Wye Valley school received a bonus break of two weeks’ extra holiday, as final touches on construction of the ‘breathtaking’ new school buildings delayed their planned return.

The brand new Monmouth Comprehensive School, constructed on the site of the old one, welcomed all pupils back on Monday (September 17, two weeks later than some of their contemporaries.

Parents were informed in June that the return to school would be later than for other schools.

A spokesperson for the school said on social media before the school opened: “On a tour of the school today – breathtaking.

“All the final preparations are taking place to welcome staff... and the whole school. Cannot wait to see the reaction from everyone.”

n On Thursday, September 27, the school will be open to the community with a chance to take a tour and meet teachers and students. Further information at www.monmouthcomprehensive.org.uk.
