I BELIEVE everyone has the right to verbally express their opinions, and that includes the anti badger cull group.
However surely any fair minded person can see that if the cull is designed to test its effectiveness in stopping the spread of bTB (bovine tuberculosis), it is surely absolutely crazy to allow people on to the sites where the cull is taking place.
It is obvious they use the 'wounded badger patrol' title as an excuse to do their best to stop badgers being culled in any way they can.
There were no wounded badgers last year which was a real tribute to the shooters when they could easily have been distracted by these folk.
Surely it can only be a fair trial if protesters are kept away from these sites till the trial period is over?
It would also save a lot of money because the police would not be needed.
The anti cull folk keep coming out with the statement that there is no scientific evidence for the cull, but nothing could be further from the truth – bTB was brought under control by badger culling in the 1970s and 1980s, with far fewer cattle restrictions than we have now and no vaccination.
It has only escalated so dramatically since 1992 when killing badgers was made illegal. The anti cull folk either don't know this important fact or try to forget it.
There is still no evidence that vaccination is the answer. In a trial in Suffolk all the badgers vaccinated developed bTB.
Farmers don't want to kill all badgers but unless infected badgers are culled there is little chance of this terrible disease being brought under control
