Ellwood Reserves 3
Tidenham 0
ELLWOOD'S reserve team face a fixture backlog and will need to win the lot if they are to get near challenging the North Gloucester League premier division's runaway favourites, Huntley.
On Saturday Ellwood saw off a spirited challenge from Tidenham, winning 3-0 in a game played in terrible conditions – "it was as bad as any I have seen a match played in," said Ellwood secretary Charlie Edwards.
Reflecting on a good season for the Reserves, Edwards said their success was based on a good mix of young and experienced players.
Saturday's goal scoring hero was Clive Baldwin who netted all three – including a superb header.
Ellwood's team included the vastly experienced Chris Stephens, now 46. The youngest member of the team was 30 years his junior – Paul Meek.
Edwards said the game was played in excellent spirit and very well controlled by referee Ken Matthews.
