PILLOWELL Silver Band has lots to celebrate after its recent roof-raising finale at a contest won two trophies.

Members of the band competed at the Gloucestershire brass band association's (GBBA) entertainment contest in Ross.

Their lively 20-minute programme included a dramatic rendition of Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis and earned them the top prize for their section – in addition to their trophy for coming third in the contest overall.

Musical director, Ian Whitburn said: "I am very proud of Pillowell for our performance – it's the best start to the year for us. It's brilliant to come home with not one but two trophies for our cabinet."

The band is now hoping to build on their success with a good result at the forthcoming West of England brass band contest in Torquay on Saturday, March 8.
