AN ill mum-of-one says she has been forced to live in squalor since last June by Wyedean Housing Association.

The apparent appearance of slugs and mushrooms growing in Jackie Beach's kitchen are just a couple of problems she says she has experienced since her home at Millers Way, in Cinderford, became damp last June.

She said: "I notified Wyedean Housing Association about damp coming into my home last year but they have yet to sort it out for me. At first it was just a case of a build-up of condensation but obviously since the recent wet weather it has got a lot worse.

"They sent somebody out to look at it but I am still living with the problem. They have said a new kitchen is needed but can't fit it anytime soon.

"I am now on a daily basis having to wipe everything down and have noticed mushrooms growing and slugs appearing in my kitchen. It's awful.

"I live here with my little boy who has asthma and it's not a healthy environment for him. If he wants to watch a DVD he has no choice but to watch it in his bedroom as the stench of mould and damp is unbearable downstairs. I just want to get it sorted."

However Wyedean Housing say the only other repair on file regarding a leak was reported at the beginning of last year, which was due to a washing machine connection leaking, this was repaired and the tenant was recharged. The association is not aware of any other damp issues in the property.

Housing Services Manager for Wyedean Housing, Pamela Jones said: "Following a report of a leak under the kitchen sink last month, a leak was identified on the stop tap to the property. The leak was repaired and the contractor confirmed subsequent water damage to the sink base unit and we are currently sourcing a replacement base unit to address the issue. The resident has been advised of the position."
