BERRY Hill mini and junior section have dedicated a bench to one of its late committee members who helped them recently achieve its RFU accreditation.
Kay Lancett, who was a member for four years and has a son who plays on the team, worked tirelessly for 12 months to gain the prestigious recognition before she died last August. The accreditation is part of the Rugby Football Union and enables the team's coaches to help teach rugby in local schools.
Junior chairman, Wayne Sharkey said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the club as we are only one of four in Gloucestershire to receive it. Kay worked so hard applying to get the award and then, unfortunately she had a heart attack, so Lesley Aston took over. Lesley has been fantastic but just so people don't forget about Kay's input the team decided to donate a bench in her memory."
The award last for two years and applies to the mini and youth sections as well as the women and girls.
Wayne added: "When we received the award four years ago it only applied to the junior section so when we reapplied we wanted to step that up and get the club as a whole accredited. I would like thank everybody who was involved to help us achieve the accreditation."
The club also runs a junior section from the under 7s through to adults, inclusive of a girls team, and they welcome new players to join them on a Sunday morning.
